Dry skin is a common skin type that occurs when the skin’s protective moisture barrier is disturbed by external factors like harsh soaps or exposure to extreme temperatures. Some skin conditions, for example, psoriasis and eczema, also heighten the likelihood of dry skin. As does getting older. Luckily, Celltone offers plentiful skin care products for dry skin.

What is the difference between dry skin and dehydrated skin?
Understanding the distinction between dry skin and dehydrated skin is crucial for effective skincare. Dry skin is a skin type characterised by insufficient sebum production, leading to a lack of natural moisture. On the other hand, dehydrated skin is a condition resulting from insufficient water content in the skin cells.
Dehydrated skin symptoms
Signs of dehydration include a dull appearance, tired eyes or dark circles under the eyes, increased skin sensitivity, and premature signs of ageing, like surface wrinkles. You can easily establish if your skin is dehydrated by doing the pinch test on your cheek, chest, or back of your hand.
How to do the pinch test: Pinch a small amount of skin and hold for a few seconds. If your skin bounces right back into shape, you are likely not dehydrated. But if it takes time to lose the pinched shape, you might be dehydrated.
To treat dehydrated skin, you can improve your hydration by consuming water-rich foods like cucumbers, strawberries, and watermelon. In addition to drinking sufficient amounts of water, you should also limit alcohol and caffeine intake because both are diuretics that can increase your chances of dehydration.
Honey, glycerine, and aloe might be best for a dehydrated skin routine. Plant oils, nut oils, mineral oils, and lanolin oils are more suitable for treating dry skin. However, dehydrated skin and dry skin can benefit from products with hyaluronic acid and ceramides.
What causes dry skin?
A dry skin type is a result of insufficient moisturising agents because of a disruption to the skin’s protective barrier. External factors that can lead to dry skin include seasonal changes, such as cold weather and low humidity, as well as exposure to hot water and harsh skincare products.
Dry skin symptoms
The first sign of dry skin is a sense of tightness or stiffness that causes discomfort on the face and body, especially after washing. Left untreated, dry skin can lead to itching, flaking, and cracking.
How do you care for a dry skin type?
Washing your face with a gentle cleanser is the first step in a good skin care routine for dry skin. A face wash designed for dry skin will be mild enough to lift the dirt and bacteria on the skin without disturbing the skin’s defensive barrier. Then, apply a moisturiser for dry skin to help your skin restore its natural protective layer.
